Patrick Kao 

Patrick Kao is a versatile jazz guitarist with a passion for both performance and education. A graduate of Capilano University, Patrick was recognized with the prestigious Dean’s Award for his outstanding musical achievements. While at CapU, he had the honour of performing alongside two of New York City’s most acclaimed jazz artists—Peter Bernstein and Renee Rosnes—as part of a university big band project.

Equally at home in intimate ensembles and large-scale jazz orchestras, Patrick brings a deep understanding of musical expression, collaboration, and improvisation to every performance and lesson.

 

As a teacher, Patrick believes that music is a deeply personal journey. He encourages his students to explore the styles and sounds that resonate most with them. His philosophy is simple yet powerful: there’s no one “right” way to make music—what matters most is enjoying the process.

With an emphasis on consistency, creativity, and technique, Patrick helps his students grow not only as musicians but also as confident, thoughtful artists.
